While the weathermen were saying that there hadn’t been a day without rain this year we met at the church in Llanrhaedr at 11am hoping that today it wouldn’t rain. We started with a visit to the church of St Dyfnog to see the Jesse window. Originally created in 1533 it was buried in a garden to save it during the civil war of the 1600’s before being returned to its position around 1661. It is also believed that a similar thing happened during World War 2. There seems to be some history to this church which leaves a lot of questions. E.g. Why was a very large font just by the entrance found in someone garden?
From there we walked round the back of the church and along the track by the steam up to the well. This was a shallow pool fed from two or three streams one of which flowed over limestone which left deposits that made the gentle waterfall look manmade or like something you would see in underground caverns.
From there some of the group continued up the track above the waterfall which was very slippery. Others turn back and returned down the gravel track, All of us met up again in the village and most of us went to “The Lodge” for lunch
Until then it had remained dry but when we were on our way home it started to rain! Thanks Iola for arranging such an interesting event and organising the weather so that we stayed dry while we were out.
