On Monday 9th March 10 members of the group (plus one dog) met up in the grounds of Plas Newydd, Historic House and Gardens in Llangollen. We had a leisurely stroll around the gardens in front of the house where unfortunately the recent wonderful display of purple crocuses had diminished but there was still plenty to see, including the historic water tower.
We followed the path from the back of the house down through the trees to the stream which skirted the gardens. There was an abundance of wild garlic in leaf, but not yet flowering and some interesting fungi, spotted by Pete.
Following a photo shoot near the ancient water font which came from the ruins of Valley Crusis Abbey, we made our way up the path towards the car park. Most of us moved on to Llangollen town centre to enjoy a light lunch at the Courtyard Cafe. Happily, the weather was mild and dry, always a bonus.
