September 26

A week later than usual, we met at Annabel's delightful cottage to share our choice of music. Sadly, Suzanne, Geoff and Diana were unable to join us this time but we all look forward to hearing their selections in October.

Our September listening included:

  • Pete - A mystery piece by Vivaldi. Hastily chosen from an incorrectly labelled CD!
  • Lin - Allegro from Concerto in D by Vivaldi. Played on the Piccolo trumpet by Alison Belsom.
  • Annabel - William Tell Overture by Rossini played by the National Philharmonic Orchestra.
  • Dave - Adagio from Clarinet Concerto in A by Mozart. Played by Sabine Meyer on the basset clarinet
  • Lionel -Scherzo from Concerto symphonique No.4, Op.102 by Henry Charles Litolff. Played by Peter Donohoe
  • Marie - The Valley from "Hymns from 49th paralell". Performed by kd lang.
  • Brenda - 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky. Played by London Philharmonic Orchestra conductor Sir Charles Mackerras.
  • Lin - Allegro Vivo from Variations on a Rococo theme by Tchaikovsky. Performed by Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conductor Herbert von Karajan.
  • Annabel 2 - "Charmed Life" performed by Diana Krall
  • Brenda 2 - Marche Slave by Tchaikovsky. Performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra accompanied by the Regimental Band of the Coldstream Guards.
  • Lionel 2 - Fantaisie-Impromptu in C-sharp minor, Op. 66 by Chopin. Performed by Vladimir Horovitz
  • Dave 2 - "Lily the Pink" by The Scaffold. With a rousing accompaniment from the assembled guests!

Our thanks are due to Annabel who not only accommodated our revised meeeting date but also rounded off our day with tea and biscuits.

Pete
